0.5/5 ★ – WrathofBen's review of Call of Duty: World at War - Final Fronts.

Wow. I don’t think I’ve played an FPS game as bad as this one. This makes Finest Hour look like a masterpiece… I normally enjoy Rebellion’s games (most notable the PSP Star Wars Battlefront games) but WOW… this game was a complete train wreck. It actually makes the new MWIII feel decent in comparison. I was convinced that was the worst COD in the franchise, but here we are. I don’t even know where to start. This was a prequel to the mainline World at War game, but I don’t even know who asked for this. This released in 2008, at the very end of the PS2’s lifespan. Considering the Wii got the full World at War game, it’s really shocking that they decided to make a whole different game for the PS2 exclusively. Treyarch had almost nothing to do with this one though, and it was all in Rebellion’s hands. I guess I’ll mainly talk technicals, since the story is nearly nonexistent. The game somehow runs worse than Finest Hour and Big Red One. Frame rate is not only slow, but the game literally slows down when too much is happening. I guess that explains when you are defending some objectives, enemies only spawn one at a time. This game was a breeze on Hardened. The only challenge I face was fighting the glitches in the game that would kill me, and reset me back 5 minutes worth into a game that’s 4 hours max. Anything from invisible walls to enemy bullets hitting through cover, grenades having a 2 second cook time before exploding, weapons stalling because you decided to aim mid firing, aim assist yanking the camera upwards, audio repeating causing cues like an air strike to never end and soft lock the level, and extremely bit-crushed audio are bound to happen at any moment while playing the game. Forgive that run on sentence, I found it best to just say it all in one go. This is a complete disaster of a game. It didn’t even have a multiplayer option. Your main menu options are “Campaign” and “Options”. You can’t name your profile, the game doesn’t remember what difficulty you started, forcing you to choose it before you resume your game every time, AND the game has to load 3 times upon boot up to mission select, taking up to 5 minutes before you can resume playing this game. Do not ever play this game. Ever. If you’re curious about what a World at War spinoff is like, watch a video. Don’t waste your time and money on this filth. Worst Call of Duty ever.
