4/5 ★ – WrathofBen's review of Medal of Honor: Allied Assault - Spearhead.
It’s amazing how night and day the two expansion packs for Allied Assault are. Like, this feels like a different game than Breakthrough. Enemies drop ammo and health again, level design is fun and engaging, and the story starts with your character jumping out of a plane and parachuting onto Normandy. THIS is a Medal of Honor game! You play as Jack Barnes (voiced by Gary Oldman) and work with British, U.S. and Russian forces to take out the German Empire.
My biggest gripe here is that the expansion was extremely short. I played this and the end of Breakthrough in one sitting. I’ve almost written both reviews back to back. No stealth, no espionage, just gun fighting, tanks, AA defense, and dodging mortar shells. This expansion is MUCH more exciting than the last, (I think the original devs worked on this one, not positive…) and feels much more in line with the base game than Breakthrough. There were struggle points, but the game never punished me for wanting to push a bit to have some fun. Health drops were never extreme, but just enough to keep me on my toes and moving. Russian weapons were also really fun to use in the final act.
8/10. I’ve finally completed the entirety of Allied Assault and its expansions! It’s a solid package with a lot to offer. Even with my gripes with Breakthrough, the entire lot of games here are worth playing. Allied Assault is the standout title of the series for me so far.
