4.5/5 ★ – Yaminder's review of Terminator: Resistance.
Where the hell did this come from?!
A good Terminator game??
This is probably not going to do it for anyone other than Terminator fans like myself but then I doubt people outside of that considerable bubble will bother to check this out.
Terminator: Resistance doesn't do anything new, in fact it borrows a hell of a lot of gameplay features from other titles, but what it does do is put those features to good use. I get vibes of Fallout, Far Cry, Alien Isolation and even a pinch of Dishonoured from this, all in a good way.
This isn't a sprawling open world game but a game with a few small open maps which works really well given the relatively small budget for this game.
This is low budget but definitely high effort and you can see that love for the (first 2) films played a big part in this getting made.
With barely a glitch to speak of during the game, it was a pretty big one right at the end that tainted my experience somewhat. There are multiple endings depending on choices you make in dialogue and gameplay, without spoiling anything I made certain choices that should have rendered a certain outcome, suffice to say in the end monologue my choices weren't represented correctly, so I had to look up what my choices were supposed to represent online.
This slightly soured an otherwise fantastic experience, I had a 4½ star score in mind before the end and changed my mind to 4 stars, I have since changed my mind back because I think this game deserves respect for what it accomplished on a modest budget and for the very surprising use of the Terminator license, also from what I gather my glitched ending is a very rare case.
Fantastic effort.
4½ stars
