3/5 ★ – Yeij's review of Industria.
on steam i saw lots of people bashing this game which i think is mostly unjust. having played it, i agree that the optimization is not that great. most of the areas, especially in the beginning half of the game, would have my frames drop to the 20s for seemingly no reason. there's also the odd lighting where some objects like doors, destructible boxes, and items would seemingly be unaffected to the lighting of the environment and to be honest some areas it just felt off, not entirely sure how to describe that. there's also the environments which can look gorgeous but upon further inspection i can see where meshes/brushes clip into one another as well as occasionally awkward flickers of light passing through terrain. so on a technical level, industria could have some more polish, but on an artistic level it is really good. its all cohesive and creates something unique with the AI computer ball things littered around empty Norwegian streets. the music is probably the best thing though, literally steals the show with its magnificent synths and strings. gameplaywise the game is alright, the sound design and animations really make the gunplay feel better than i had expected it to be. though it doesnt really get too hard ever, at least on normal difficulty. ammo and health was aplenty making enemies not that scary (except at the beginning of the game when all i had was a pickaxe and a lil pistol with 15 bullets to my name). though the atmosphere in some places can be pretty great, from tense horror sections in dark halls to serene moments in dilapidated streets. overall, a bit disappointed as i had expected more polish but i think that this game should not be considered bad at all considering that this was their first game. its not an unfinished game but i feel like it's something more of a project to be put on a game dev's portfolio. if i was somebody that worked on this i would be more than proud to have that on my portfolio.
