4/5 ★ – Yeij's review of Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight.
an absolutely fantastic metroidvania that is hampered by insta-death spikes and respawning from previous saves rather than a checkpoint. the pacing of obtaining abilities to the beautiful art style to the engaging boss fights, momodora rutm is a great build upon the momodora games but also a nice short entry into the metroidvania genre. the level design is also really good, hiding secrets in places to make me feel smart or are just genuinely well hidden but also the layouts of rooms create great scenarios to tackle. asides from the insta-death spikes and the use of reloading saves instead of respawning at a checkpoint, the only other nitpick/problem i can think of mentioning is how i felt that the bow wasnt very useful except for some occasions. i barely used it in combat and because of that the items i got for it weren't used very much as well. mightve just been my playstyle but that really didnt detract from my enjoyment of this gorgeous metroidvania. really recommended to metroidvania fans and those who want a nice game to play over a weekend since it isn't very long (took me 4 hours to beat).
