3/5 ★ – YogiEisbar's review of Necromunda: Hired Gun.
A very hard recommendation to give. Honestly most people will be put off with the janky, buggy, rough and terrible sounding game on offer here.
The story is a little all over the place with a disappointing ending and side missions exist purely for money making and nothing else.
The bugs weren't major but frequent (some of which I was genuinely impressed how they messed it up), fps drops (just little ones) were just as frequent and many moments of AA jank rear their ugly head, sometimes funny and sometimes frustrating,
The voice acting is alright. Just alright. The characters don't have enough about them to make you care and the bounty hunter I picked sounded straight from an English Soap Opera (not a compliment).
Now, if you are still with me and wondering how I still recommend this thing after that list? It's fun. Super fun.
It's a mid budget/b tier/AA shooter with obvious influences from DOOM 2016 and eternal. It's fun to use these ridiculous OTT guns that pop enemies heads off. It's fun to use bionics to turn a couple of enemies into literal puddles of gore. It's fun to wall run and grapple to get cool cinematic kills and search for treasures.
It genuinely got me interested in warhammer 40k due to the amazing guns, cool looking characters, interesting sounding factions, the damn genestealers that spooked the frick outta me and the simply amazing world design.
Hired Gun clearly isn't the best looking game ever but people with a lot of love made environments that make you forget that and think it's beautiful... in it's own warhammer 40k way.
If you cannot put up with the issues that I front loaded this review with then please don't bother. If it doesn't bother you, you are a 40k fan and/or just wanna shoot some stuff in an enjoyable gory fashion then go for it. I'm glad I did play it and got 100% achievements in my playthrough too.
