2.5/5 ★ – YogiEisbar's review of Sniper Elite 5.

Sniper Elites are true guilty pleasure games for me. I enjoy them, but I don't think they are that good. They are gamey games in the sense that there's a real arcade feel to just jumping in and shooting Nazis. I'm not invested in any of the characters or what Karl Fairburne is up to. I think this one is France and the last was in Italy...but I quite frankly don't care. It's not really a blockbuster story and I have negative investment in the side characters. The additional character voice acting is also questionable. Seriously, a terrible Scottish accent of a Resistance member sent me every single time...they spoke so slowly it became unrealistic. The stuff I care about is the fact I can be a sneaky shadow or a one man army taking down everything in my path. It's perfectly fine at what it does, and the series staple x-ray kill cams are always fun and satisfying to go for. Going for a testicle shot and ending up with and intestine shot feels bad through. There just isn't much depth here, however. Some opposing snipers, some tanks, some turrets, it literally all can be tackled with a sniper rifle. This IS cool and fits a sort of power fantasy, but I just can't take it seriously. I don't know if it even wants me to. Shooting a tank with a sniper to the point it explodes is certainly a choice. The approach of the dev to DLC is also kinda atrocious, you can still play the game but they have multiple season passes that cost and arm and a leg, in every game they put out. Leaves a sour taste. Perfect for grabbing a friend and goofing off with some silly arcadey action but nothing special.
