4/5 ★ – Zackahree's review of Destiny 2: The Witch Queen.

The Destiny 2: The Witch Queen expansion is, quite frankly and as many others have said, Destiny at it's best. Destiny 2's storytelling and world crafting have become some of it's best qualities after being stale and lifeless for so long. However, with the obvious and meticulous attention to detail and form, Destiny 2 feels immersive and "special." Special isn't typically a term I'd used to define games, but when thinking about Destiny being a live service game and understanding that, as good as this story was, this isn't the ending, it creates a Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) type feeling when consuming it's content. When it comes to MCU movies and shows, I am constantly thinking about what's next for the heroes and how they will all continue together, creating an impatience in me for the next MCU piece to drop so I can continue to get lost in it's world. With The Witch Queen, I finally have that same pining for more story and a wonder about what comes next and who will be involved. Destiny 2's ability to transform its weakest selling point to reaching MCU levels of hype and potential (for me at least) makes this one of the greatest times to be an enjoyer of the story and lore behind what Bungie is crafting. Speaking of crafting, Destiny 2 continues to listen and implement the feedback of it's playerbase, with that unique Bungie touch, and creates new systems and ways to play that feel motivating and rewarding. While there may be some kinks in the new systems, The Witch Queen was the first step for Destiny into big changes, like weapon crafting, and also took this chance to continue building existing systems, like vendor reputation. These changes, big or small, are meaningful and allow the player to engage with the game more significantly than before and in more interesting ways. Now there are reasons to try new weapons and to use a crafted weapon more frequently to build its level. There are reasons for running public events non-stop and hunting for world chests and materials to upgrade rank for new vendors. There are reasons to do the things we used to do in new ways with all of the benefits being for the player, and this is a positive direction for any game. Destiny 2: The Witch Queen is a new standard for Destiny 2, and the new standard for live service games, which Bungie has already been setting for years. The main proponents of that are it's immersive new way of telling stories that keep me wishing and wanting, and making the journey along the way fun and engaging through new systems, weapons, and environments. Bungie deserves to take a bow. —————————- 5.0: Masterpiece 4.5: Amazing 4.0: Great 3.0: Good 2.0: Fine 1.0: Bad
