ZedAmadeus's review of Rayman Legends.

I don't really know how I would ever be able to effectively review something this enmeshed in my childhood--but what I can attest to, is that there are very few games this boisterous--that posess this level of musicality and verve. there's such a playfulness carried throughout every discrete element of the game that causes it all to sing together so wonderfully. it's also a just a really tightly designed little platformer with a great spread of difficulty that makes it perfect for newbies and so much fun for more experienced players to sink their teeth into! or even for taking those newbies and turning them into experienced players--it's a great starting place is the point! The only real reservation I have about this game is the way women are represented... I'm sure someone reading this is rolling their eyes, but don't mistake me, I actually like a lot of the designs for the playable princesses. but I grew up playing this game with girls, and I can't speak for them but it was there was always this unspoken discomfort in the room for everyone the way dying and blowing up into a bubble showed their underwear. What's more, they don't all need to look the exact same in terms of body type, proportions, how high or low cut the clothes are--these are ostensibly DIFFERENT characters, but they all look the same. and... that's without even mentioning how thoughtless it is that the only playable female characters have to be unlocked by rescuing them first. It's not world-ending, it's just a bit lame, and it didn't have to be like that. Legends was definitely less sleazy than the first game but it's still frustrating.
