4.5/5 ★ – Zimtiki's review of DuckTales: Remastered.

Remaking a game is always an iffy endeavor. You have to keep the original gameplay in tact, but you also have to update it enough for it to be mixed as well. Ducktales remastered tried this, and succeeded in nearly every possible way. Unlike in the original, where the entire story is hidden away in the manual, the story here is front and center AND features the original voice actors from the show! The characters are all hand-drawn sprites, and the backgrounds are all pre-rendered CGI, it all looks amazing. You can play on easy mode which gives you infinite lives, or you can play on original, which gives you 3 lives and sends your ass back to the beginning if you die… give me the easy mode, please. The game has you exploring 5 levels, each with a treasure that Scrooge McDuck must find, each being guarded by a boss that are SUPER fun to fight. The final boss of the game was so fun that I nearly started the game over again right away. This game is a reminder of how fun some of these old NES platformers can be when given a fresh coat of paint, and with the removal of 80’s era blockbuster bullshit. This game is one I’ll likely be revisiting often. It’s not long and it’s not too hard, but it’s a short burst of fun that deserves to be played.
