4.5/5 ★ – Zimtiki's review of God of War: Chains of Olympus.
God of War-a-thon part 2! This game is a direct prequel to the first game in the series, having it end directly where the original game begins. The game was also the series first putting in a handheld, and damn, does it work. It really reminds you of how damn cool the PSP was for the time it came out, truly a powerhouse. It’s literally like playing a PS2 game on the go! Which, btw, is what this game feels like: God of War on PS2.
The story here is basically just more of Kratos gettin himself into trouble. He’s just out on killing baselisks and Persians, and then BOOM! The sun just falls out of the fuckin sky. So silly! Now a shadow man named Morpheus (not that Morpheus) is making monsters appear and making the other Gods fall asleep, and so Kratos has to rescue Helios, the God of the Sun, by himself! Helios is being held by Persephone, who released Atlas from his planet-holding prison, so you gotta fight her and lock up Atlas again, classic Greek mythology stuff.
Overall? I think this game is fuckin awesome. The set pieces, the MUSIC, it’s real good. The puzzles are also the perfect level of confusing, it’s like they catered the puzzles exactly to what my small mind is capable of solving. This is a short game and because of this, the entirety of the game is fun and memorable, and I’ll absolutely be revisiting it.
