3/5 ★ – Zimtiki's review of Job Simulator.
Job Simulator is a VR game that lets you look into the distant future, or, the year 2055. Macintosh-looking floating monitor robots have taken over, and have created a “Job Museum,” allowing robot tourists to see what it was like to work a shitty human job.
So, basically, this game is a joke about our mundane existence, but adds enough humor to the dull situations you’re stuck in to keep it entertaining. In the museum, you have four jobs to try out: office worker, chef, convenient store clerk, and car mechanic. As you work these jobs, you’re given tasks by the ever watching Job Bot, who STARES at you and never ceases, which is very unsettling in VR. The jobs have you deal with robotic customers, and the solutions to their problems are often ridiculous, since these robots have no idea about human emotions/human interaction. I put hot sauce in car engines, fed a guy grape juice mixed with carrots and broccoli, and threw a thousand pieces of paper into Job Bot’s stupid face.
The main problem with this game though, is unfortunately how old it is. 7 years really isn’t that old, but it IS when it comes to VR. Budget games like Job Simulator were originally created as an introduction to VR and the age is something you can see and feel. I played this on PSVR2 and they did add new features like haptic feedback, but you can still feel how this game was made at an early time for VR before the formula was nailed down. Unfortunately, this 2-3 hour experience will have you wanting more, but you’ll enjoy the short ride regardless. You’ll wish there was more to do though, for sure.
