4/5 ★ – Zimtiki's review of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.

After saving the Luminoth on Aether, Samus finally returns from her long mission to the Galactic Federation. Just like the Space Pirates, the GF has been experimenting with Phazon. They’ve created new suits for their marines powered by Phazon energy, as well as an upgrade for Samus’ suit. They’ve also fitted multiple GF allied bounty hunters with this technology, those being the shapeshifter Grandaya, the master of ice, Rundas, and the mechanical but sentient Ghor. Unfortunately, it turns out that Phazon, and beings that are linked to it, can be corrupted by the STILL LIVING Dark Samus. Now, Samus has no choice but to defeat her former allies, Dark Samus, AND her creation: Phaaze, a planet made entirely of Phazon. While the gameplay remains similar to the previous entries, the motion controls really make you feel the action, though every time my cat Utah wanted to snuggle, she’d walk in front of the remote and cut off the signal, leaving me momentarily helpless. Frustrating but adorable. One thing that DID throw me off in this game though is its linearity. Unlike Prime 1 & 2, this game has much smaller maps that are extremely easy to explore, with hidden areas basically not existing outside of a few that have to do with the story. 100%ing this game is a breeze, but SINCE the maps are so linear, backtracking feels much more tedious due to you not having any shortcuts or alternate paths to take. I also didn’t die once, meaning this is also the easiest in the series. But enough shit talk, this game is still a great ass time. The set pieces are exciting and thrilling, and the first fight with Ridley!? So memorable, this game has a TON of charm in it and it makes me sad knowing it went under the radar for so many people. I do wish the ending was a little longer though, as it felt kind of rushed, Samus could’ve definitely used a little more character development after that whole journey. But hey, whatever. This game is great and you should play it.
