4/5 ★ – Zimtiki's review of Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
Say whaaaaaat??? A new kind of Pokémon game without traditional mechanics! For the first time in 25 years? Well, it’s true. Not sure why it took so long, but it feels really good to see something new in this franchise.
So, this game starts out odd. You’re a kid from the modern age (in the world of Pokémon, of course) thrown back in time to the early days of Sinnoh, shortly after the Pokéball has been invented. First warning here though: the beginning of this game is SO TALKY that I almost quit. They babble so much and nothing they say is interesting, they could’ve at least taught us about how life was different back in the day, but everything they say is so mundane and boring, and it goes on for SO LONG and if you miss an important sentence you’ll be FUCKING lost. After the long, annoying tutorial though, the game sets you free and allows you to enjoy a brand new Pokémon experience.
In THIS game, if you see a wild Pokémon wandering about, you simply throw a Pokéball or one of your Pokémon out at them. No loading screens, no random encounters, just throw, attack, catch. A Pokémon battle in an older Pokémon game would ALWAYS take a minute, but in this game, you can start a fight and end it in seconds, you can even freely move around as your Pokémon fights! You can also use your Pokémon to climb walls, swim, and even FLY with them freely! If you’ve ever wanted to truly explore the world of Pokémon, this is the game for you. Though the graphics look dated and the performance of the game can lag at times, it’s just so nice to see this franchise finally moving forward. After this games success, the team will be receiving a much larger budget for their next project, and I’m very excited to see what they come up with. Btw, if you wanna SEE Arceus, you WILL have to 100% this bad boy. If you’re a big fan though, it’s absolutely worth it.
