3.5/5 ★ – Zimtiki's review of Sonic CD.
Originally meant to be a direct copy of Sonic the Hedgehog in CD quality, this game grew into its own project, acting as the direct sequel to the original game. In it, we see Doctor Robotnik returning with a tiny planet that he’s essentially turned into a Death Star, and has made a ROBOTIC SONIC copy, that kidnaps Amy Rose (Sonic’s girlfriend apparently) and takes her on board. You have to stop Robotnik and save Amy before it’s too late!
So this game feels VERY similar to the first game, but oddly, it seems to look a little worse. GREAT technology, Sega. You made a WORSE LOOKING ADDITION TO A CONSOLE THAT WAS ALREADY A SUCCESS. The music DOES sound way better though, and it slaps. The levels in this game are much better than the first one, each of them being fully thought out rather than being full of shitty platform challenges. The bosses though? They kind of suck. They’re either too easy, or have really weird hit boxes that result in you getting hit too, no matter what you do. Idk, it’s weird. The bonus levels are much better than the first game though, with you ACTUALLY being able to control what’s happening, and have to chase down floating balloons and jump at them pop em. Pop em all, get a Time Stone (which is the new thing in this game apparently). Oh yeah, speaking of time, this game lets you travel through time from the future to the past. When you gain enough speed and hit a future/past sign, you’ll launch into that dimension, which will open up new paths on the levels and change the dynamic of the game. It’s honestly a cool mechanic that seems like it’d be really fun to explore. I like it. Oh, and the Metal Sonic race was bullshit, took me too many tries and Metal Sonic is a stupid fuck.
