3.5/5 ★ – Zimtiki's review of The Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge.

The Nightmare Before Christmas is a Tim Burton film originally released in 1993 by Disney, known for its incredible music, visuals, and stop-motion animation. If you haven’t seen the movie, you’ve probably never celebrated Halloween or Christmas, it’s a classic. Well, for some reason, Capcom, yes, thee Capcom, decided to release a video game about it 12 years after the films release. Seems pretty late for a cash-grab, right? Well, surprisingly, this is NO cash-grab. This is a story focused sequel to the film that was clearly made with passion and love for the source material. The story picks up a year after the film. Lock, Shock, and Barrel have found a way to resurrect Oogie Boogie, who now plans on killing the 7 holiday kings and becoming the tyrant ruler of every holiday, BASICALLY world domination. Using his new whip-like weapon, the Soul Robber, Jack Skellington must defeat Oogie’s army and destroy him once and for all. The presentation in this game is insane, it looks exactly like the film. Honestly, this game is a DREAM remaster for me, I can’t imagine how beautiful this game would look with a modern coat of paint. The combat here is similar to God of War, having you perform combo attacks on enemies with your whip, fire breath, and Christmas present minions. It’s simple, but solid and addicting. The bosses are for sure the coolest part of the game. As you fight them, you’ll be thrust into musical segments that have you collect music notes by getting the timing on the notes right, the better you do, the more damage you’ll inflict. The music here is SO good too, literally on the films level. Overall, this game may not have aged as well as it could’ve l, but the charm this game oozes makes it worth a playthrough. This is definitely a hidden gem.
