This is a very short game indeed. Although you know objectively what you are doing, you don't know why. There's seemingly an overarching plot here that is in no way given to the player intentionally. I kinda like that.
The gameplay is simple and pretty tight (being built on Id Tech 2 helps here) for its time (2008) though more modern games have evolved beyond this. It's got a little bit of platforming but honestly feels like a short concept demo for a larger project. It wouldn't garner any interest to publishers in its current state in modern times.
The only reason I played it was because the sequel to this game, Thirty Flights of Loving, is mentioned in the developer commentary for Firewatch. Thought I'd give this free game a go before that one.
