2.5/5 ★ – albatrosstv's review of Trek to Yomi.
Trek to Yomi is a stylish and cool 2d beat em up, with fun visuals and various faults and stop it from being a perfect experience.
The story was okay and at interesting enough to keep me playing through the whole experience, but since the whole game is in black and white, the white captions sometimes get lost on the screen, losing some of the dialogue since u can't add a background to the text. You can switch it to and english dub but it sounded so so bad I quickly changed it back within 30 seconds.
The game contains 7 chapters, and while I won't spoil what happens in each. For me it started out okay, my favourite was chapter 4 and 5 and started to drag on a bit towards the end with the reuse of older content to pad out the games length.
The final boss was very tough and felt pretty unfair too but it only took me 20 minuites to beat. The choice in ending is a fun addition although it only changes the final cutscene and doesn't add or change any gameplay.
The game often switched to 3d for mini exploration which was a fun break of pace, you can find ammunition, collectibles and extra moves to execute in combat. And even a few basic puzzles are present.
The combat was basic but fun but in the 6ish of my playthrough I never felt like I needed to change how I attacked just using down x and trying to parry and block, never really touching the charge attack at all.
Overall the game was a decent fun romp with a some flaws here and there but I still think it's worth your time, 3/5
