4.5/5 ★ – alcoholicgoat's review of Red Dead Redemption II.
This might be Rockstar's best game. I tried it months ago and put it down, debating on whether or not I should continue, and I'm glad I did. The game is a VERY slow burn, but you need to be patient with it because that time is spent cultivating narrative seeds to be paid off in such emotionally resonant ways. It's such a massive experience that I think everyone needs to endure. The characters really won me over and I was surprised at how Rockstar managed to make me connect with Arthur Morgan. I haven't felt that attached to a playable character since my first playthrough of the Mass Effect Trilogy. It's a powerful game. This is absolutely a must play. Be patient with it and it will win you over.
I can confidently say this is the best game of the 8th generation hands down
I haven't felt this way about a game in a very long time. I assumed this was an experience that I would never have. I was more impressionable when I played Mass Effect and I assumed those formative experiences wouldn't happen or cut as deep as they would when I got older. I figured that I grew up, and that I wouldn't be so attached to the media I consumed but this game made me feel like I was 16 again. It cut deep and it's not something I'm going to forget anytime soon.
