4/5 ★ – amazedbygrace86's review of Plebby Quest: The Crusades.
Once I understood the mechanics of this grand-strategy-lite game, I had a hard time putting it down. The graphics and sound effects are cute and diffuse some of the horrors of this time period. The diplomacy is very transparent which is both a blessing and a curse. While it's nice to know where every nation stands with you at all times, it would great if you could surprised every now and again. The combat is my favorite part and is a lot more tactical than at first glance. I really enjoyed leveling up my generals and troops and sending them out on expeditions to paint the map with my nation's color. However, I didn't necessarily resonate with the game's use of speech bubbles. Although they tried to add a little levity into the game, I found them annoying and unnecessary. Overall, Plebby Quest: The Crusades is not a perfect grand strategy game, but it's a lot easier to pick up than Crusader Kings 2 - and at times, a bit more fun to play!
