3/5 ★ – amazedbygrace86's review of Sid Meier's Starships.
At times, Starships has the "one more turn" quality that Sid Meier is known for in his games (I see you over there Civilization). You think, "If I can just build another starship or research better lasers or build up some planetary defense, I'll be golden." Initially, the turn-based battles pull you in, and you enjoy flying your ships around, taking shots at the enemy and seeing stuff blow up. However, then you do this over and over and over again, and Starships begins to get stale. On normal difficulty, the game was much too easy. However, on the highest level of difficulty (Impossible), the AI provided greater push-back, yet still with a little pluck and patience, one can create a massive fleet of doom (torpedoes can be fun, though!) and start spreading your cosmic brand throughout the galaxy. Also, the diplomacy system is paltry at best. For some reason, the other civilizations can't keep their mouths shut - and will tell you anything you want to know. No secrets in this cosmos. All in all, I'm glad I played Starships - and if you like some light turn-based space combat and civilization building, then check it out. If not, then take your ship and head to another system.
