3.5/5 ★ – amazedbygrace86's review of The Lamplighters League.

What first drew me to The Lamplighter's League (TLL) was the Indiana Jones vibes. The thought of rescuing the world from ruthless bad guys (in turn-based combat!) while zipping around the globe on sundry adventures was captivating. It didn't hurt TLL was also developed by Harebrained Schemes, makers of several games I enjoyed in the past, including Battletech and Shadowrun: Dragonfall. But did the actual adventure live up to first appearances? Yes and no. I like the diversity of characters, the tight turn-based combat and way you can level up and kit out your world-saving scoundrels. The banter between missions also fleshes out the characters back-stories and adds a dash of humor to the game. However, the game is held back by 3 "doomsday clocks" which represent 3 enemy factions you are trying to hold at bay as you gather what you need for the final mission. Thankfully, if a faction's clock fills up, you can do a "Last Stand" mission to buy yourself a little more time. So, in some sense, the clocks really don't matter all that much, but they do make the game harder and force you to choose your missions carefully. If that is fun for you, great, but I wanted more time to recruit and experiment with new teammates. I also wish the game had more variety in the types of missions and locales you fight in. It sometimes felt like you were fighting the same battle over and over again. Nevertheless, I enjoyed my time with TLL and would definitely level up Ingrid again to completely wreak havoc upon the hapless enemy in one turn.
