4/5 ★ – angeldelmito's review of Assassin's Creed: Origins.
75/100
My very first Assassin’s Creed game. My goodness! I loved the incorporation of history and mythology to the narrative, as well as adored the “Creed” being started in Africa. Bayek and Aya/Amunet, you will ALWAYS be famous!
Anyway, the gameplay had extremely frustrating moments though. The AI on both ends came across as stupid on too many occasions. Did not appreciate not having a jump button. Other random enemies/bounty hunters should not be able to fight you/kill your ally while you’re on a quest escorting someone to safety. The lack of Fast Travel places on a map as gigantic as this was actually insane. Boats tearing apart the second you touch land, horses not going up a hill a little too steep, I mean, UGH! The Hippodrome mini game is atrocious, and there were some Walmart Tomb Raider scenes sprinkled about that I just could not ignore. One of the last things I hated was the fact that Bayek was so. damn. SLOW!!!! It drove me absolutely insane the amount of fucking times I got hit or died because he wasn’t getting away from enemies/projectiles fast enough. I’ve never had this experience with ANY other game! What the fuck!
Ghost of Tsushima did the “assassin” game 20x better I’m afraid. Y’all, who have had a head start on this type of franchise for decades, need to get UP!
Coming back to the story, aside from the nice nods, this unfortunately was also lacking, though it certainly did have its moments. But the final act, aside from the final 15 minutes or so, is such a drag to get through. While I was playing through the war/battle sequences, I couldn’t help but think about how I was so spoiled by the finale of GoT, Rise of the Tomb Raider, or The Last of Us 2!
Anyway, regardless of all my criticisms, I still enjoyed myself enough to recommend this to others, but I wasn’t sold enough to want to go through a New Game+, sorry. I’ll be looking forward to the newest one coming out though. Can’t wait to play as Yasuke!
