5/5 ★ – asoola's review of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth.
So I finished Infinite Wealth and with full confidence I’m gonna say it’s a masterpiece! It’s a journey filled with emotional and fun moments, and I found myself sobbing on multiple occasions and that’s why this game is very impactful to me! The story and the new characters that were introduced are very well written not only that but the game itself is very fun to play every little thing I did in the game is fun and I enjoyed trying to figure out how each boss fight works and how I can progress forward. The turn based gameplay was never an issue to me I found it very fun since Yakuza: Like a Dragon so it’s no surprise that I loved and enjoyed the new improved gameplay!
I’ll dive more into the story and few characters so that’s your warning for spoilers ‼️ One of the main themes in the game is “Second Chance” (or at least that’s how I interpreted it) now I don’t mean just giving someone a second chance rather I’m also talking about giving something a second chance for example Ichiban at the beginning was giving the ex-yakuza a second chance to make their life better as civilians! (a second chance at living their new life right so to speak) and I really love that theme and it’s present with each character whether it’s a new character or a returning character they all had this theme in their story! Chitose and Tomizawa were given a second chance because of Ichi’s words of encouragement to better their lives! At the end Chitose atones for her mistakes and becomes the next chairwoman to right her family’s wrongs. As for Tomizawa he stops being with the Yamai Syndicate and decides to change his own life for the better and help in whatever way he can and in the ending he says he’ll help Palekana instead of thinking of revenge he’s now thinking of giving the people that helped him more help 🫶🏽 Eiji and Ebina also are given a second chance by Ichi and Kiryu. Saeko gives Ichiban a second chance, Yamai decides to turn himself in and gives himself another chance to right his past mistakes, etc you get the point I’m making. 💛 Since I mentioned Kiryu he also decides to give life another chance and decides to keep fighting the illness which is very inspirational and I really love how they wrote his story! It’s just a very well done story with amazing characters and it managed to exceed my expectations! Oh also Ichi’s speech at the end to Eiji is so inspiring I really love it 🫶🏽 Main story aside the substories for Ichi were really fun to do I did 41 sub story and all of them made me laugh and cry 🫡 Speaking of crying Kiryu’s bucket list made me cry on different occasions the Life Links episode were really good and it’s a good way to tie any loose ends from previous games! (raise your hands if you cried when you saw Kaoru Sayama and Shun Akiyama) Kiryu’s bucket list didn’t just include Life Links episodes it also includes Memoirs of a Dragon and basically they also take the player and Kiryu down memory lane and I enjoyed these very much. 🫶🏽 Drink Links and the Bingo Cards were really my favorite thing to do in the game each drink link is written well my favorite one was Joongi Han’s 🤍 Before I talk about the amazing soundtrack and Hawaii exploration I wanted to say each antagonist is written well and they were all intriguing and I mean all of them Yamai, Ebina, Bryce, Eiji, Wong, etc. (some of them became better people half way through the game but still) Also the ending is very inspiring I think it’s such a well written ending LOVE IT! Now the soundtrack multiple tracks were stuck in my head the moment they played in my game like the Palekana theme, amazing soundtrack it’s gonna be on repeat! As for exploring Hawaii I loved running around and seeing everything the game had to offer in Hawaii! I hope if there’s Like a Dragon 9 I hope they’ll let Ichi and the team explore a new place that would be so much fun! Anyways that’s that for my review such a good game definitely one of my favorite Like a Dragon games and whenever Like a Dragon 9 gets announced I’ll play that on day one THANK YOU RGG STUDIO FOR THIS AMAZING, EPIC, INSPIRING AND EMOTIONAL ADVENTURE 💖
