5/5 ★ – asoola's review of Persona 5 Tactica.
This review will dive into the main story of P5T and its DLC first I’ll talk about the main story!
I finished playing the main story of Persona 5 Tactica and wow where do I even start, I didn’t have high expectations for this game because I simply didn’t know what to expect if that makes sense? I do know I was excited to finally get it and be able to play it and what a journey it is!
The story is so well written and so engaging from start to finish, the themes, plot, characters, and the way the story is told is fantastic. I love how Persona 5 games themes always manage to find its way to the core theme of Persona 5 and that’s rebellion and freedom. The games of Persona 5 don’t ever forget what the theme is and I really like that, the themes I mentioned are the core of P5 but in each game whether it’s the original P5, P5R, P5 Strikers or P5 Tactica the story is told in its own way and it doesn’t feel repetitive if that makes sense! The story as I said is definitely well written and it’s one of my favorite stories in gaming it made me cry, laugh and emotional and it definitely stuck with me even after a week of finishing it.
Let’s talk about the new characters, the antagonist were great, are they likable? Nope but each antagonist had a role to play and as antagonist the way their stories are written is very well! Antagonists aside I wanna talk about the three major characters in Persona 5 Tactica: Toshiro Kasukabe, Erina (or Elle in Japanese), and Eri Natsuhara! I seriously wasn’t expecting to like these characters as much as I do but THEY’RE VERY WELL WRITTEN CHARACTERS! I would say I’m surprised but after how much I liked Sumire Yoshizawa, Takuto Maruki, Zenkichi Hasegawa, and Sophia I knew deep down the new characters will be amazing. Let’s start with Toshiro at the beginning I didn’t know what to think of him but as I played more and more of the game I saw his character grow until he finally reached his own character development and I really love that throughout the game they subtly show that Toshiro isn’t just a coward who just follows orders so by the time he awakened to his Persona it’s like that’s all he needed to steel his own conviction! Erina next, she’s a character that immediately became a favorite I just love how determined she is to fight for her people but also I loved how she had a vulnerable side and was afraid of being okay with stuff like injustices! I definitely didn’t expect her to be Toshiro’s Persona but I loved that detail she embodies the image of revolution perfectly! Erina’s character also had a very well done character development she wasn’t just this character who was fighting for what they thought was right she’s a very caring and selfless character and that’s why she ended up being one of my favorite characters. Eri Natsuhara she didn’t have lots of screen time but her impact on the story and Toshiro’s character is always present, I truly loved her ideals and I loved her character, her backstory is also emotional which I love and I found myself relating to it lots. I wasn’t expecting to see her in the ending but my god it was a welcome surprise I cried when I saw her meet with Toshiro again. 🥹
Now that I talked about the story and characters time to talk about the gameplay. It’s definitely different than what I’m used to but it’s not bad at all, I had fun learning everything and the moment I got the hang of it I started having lots of fun with the gameplay! Tactical games are so good I think! Let’s talk about the OST it’s definitely fantastic, which isn’t a surprise at this point but Tactica’s songs have a special feeling to them there’s coziness yet there’s also powerful vocals in some of the songs that gave me goosebumps, the ending song especially I remember being very shocked when I first heard it because it felt like a choir if that makes sense? But again it had this coziness to it too it’s definitely my favorite ending song in Persona 5 games I think!
Well that’s all I wanted to say about the main story and the main game, I think the game is definitely worth the wait and I’m so glad I finally got to experience this amazing tale of revolution. ❤️
Repaint Your Heart DLC:
While I’m at it I did purchase the story DLC because I’m a big fan of the royal trio, and honestly I wasn’t expecting to love the new story and characters as much as I did! Luca and Guernica (Tao) story made me cry on multiple occasions it is such a well written story, I also loved the story themes in the DLC! Now the trio does forget the events but they still feel like they had a good memory so that’s fine with me it’s heavily implied Guernica still remembers though! (Also I wasn’t expecting Toshiro to show up at the end to be honest but it’s a welcome surprise) Characters talk time, Luca is a fantastic character too same goes for Guernica as well I think they’re up there with my favorite characters from P5 games. I don’t know if it’s intentional but if it is I absolutely adore the fact Guernica parallels the royal trio stories losing an older sister parallels Sumire’s story, having hatred for the world because you were ignored and only liked when your talents made you famous parallels Akechi’s story, and being treated unjustly 100% parallels Ren’s story. I think these three characters were the perfect characters for this story because they understood Guernica the most if that makes sense. Also Jerri was a fantastic antagonist I think she had no redemption points whatsoever and she was so cruel but that’s just the sort of antagonist she is! I love how they connected her to Salmael from the main story too! I’ll say one more thing and it’s this story made me love Ren, Sumire, and Akechi even more than I already did whether as a trio or as individual characters there was things said in this game that I never knew about the characters and I really love those little facts! Story and characters aside the new gameplay is fantastic, Sumire and Akechi were fantastic party members and I’m so glad you can actually use them as party members in the main story, but them aside the painting mechanic was my favorite! The stages in the main story were tactical enough but with these ones I felt like I had to be extra smart about where I place each character because they could be hit and get a critical hit even if they’re behind a cover, so I really like how the difficulty was up for all 14 missions. There are the challenges stages that I did not play yet but I plan on playing soon! Anyway the new tracks were also great my favorite though is “The Night We Stood.” I was dancing and singing along while playing that’s for sure. 😂 That’s all I wanted to say really it’s a very well made and written DLC and I think it’s worth the money personally!
Final notes on the entire game and it’s DLC:
PLAY P5T AND REPAINT YOUR HEART IT’S SUCH A GOOD GAME! ❤️
