4.5/5 ★ – beardedgoddess's review of Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition.

I haven’t been this engrossed in a game since Bloodborne and maybe even when I played Baldur’s Gate 2 back in 2015. I remember I was obsessed with BG2 but soft locked myself from progressing further after about 33 hours. This time, I didn’t necessarily want to bother with the aged DND system that I’m not familiar with, so I did the story mode version. I don’t think it lessened the enjoyment of this game, because the story, world, and characters are really what make it so wonderful. This is easily the most lived-in world I have every seen in a game. There are so many innocuous encounters that go no where but really just make it so immersive. Almost every quest is unique and rich with lore. The writing is phenomenal, as if it came from legitimate writers and not just video gamey trash. I was never into DND before, but this play through really sparked my interest in delving further into this world. The only problem I have is the amount of companions. I hate having to pick and choose and eventually drop a companion in any RPG, and this game had the most to choose from. I also feel like it is kind of short, I beat it in 31 hours after exploring every single nook and cranny. I suppose I’ll have to play the Siege of Dragonspear DLC then, cause I am very much going to play BG 2 again and BG3 when it comes out (and goes on sale). I highly recommend this as one of the best fantasy games of all time. It was so incredibly immersive and it’s the only time I willingly chose to do easy/story mode. Check it out, and you will not regret it
