4/5 ★ – benhmedia's review of Forgotton Anne.
Of all the games on my Switch backlog, this one had been sitting there the longest. I think I purchased it about 3 years ago? Fitting for a game that revolves around people and objects that become forgotten.
But I’m glad I finally remembered to play this. I loved the story and characters, the voice acting is excellent, the dialogue is surprisingly well-written, and the compositing & sound mixing really make for an immersive world. I would go so far as to say it was every bit as atmospheric as something like Hollow Knight, though the gameplay isn’t quite as fun. I feel a similar way about this game as I do with Undertale: the gameplay is enjoyable enough, but the story and characters are really what make both games shine. I don’t think the story is perfect - it’s never explained why other forgotten humans have never showed up in that land, and the plot twist with the clock at the end should have had *way* more foreshadowing.
Aside from those minor issues with the plot - as well as decent-but-not-incredible gameplay - this is well worth your time if you’re looking for an engaging, interactive story where your choices have consequences. It’s like playing your way through a quality animated film. I’d highly recommend it!
