2.5/5 ★ – benhmedia's review of Gibbon: Beyond the Trees.
Got this game on sale for the Switch at just $4, and I’m glad I did. Because this game isn’t worth $15. Gibbon is a short, film-length game that clearly has heart. It takes you through a story without words, in which a Gibbon family is torn apart through poaching and deforestation. Swing from tree to tree (and building to building) with the game’s simple three-button controls - and that’s about it. The gameplay is about as basic and repetitive as could be. That being said, it looks beautiful. The atmospheric music & sound design do an admirable job at pulling you into its world, too. The game really is effective at relaying the importance of its message…I just wish it was more fun to play through.
