3/5 ★ – blackade2000's review of Shrek Forever After.

Honestly this is a comfort game for me. I come back to it every now and then and beat it every time. I restarted it like 3-4 days ago and I just 100% it. I'm aware it's objectively not great; 1. The plot changes don't make sense sometimes (for example, Shrek finds the contract at the swamp and knows by that point what he has to do to fix the situation; yet, right after, they go places cause "they need to get the contract back" altho it just doesn't serve any purpose anymore. It's something they also mention on the very last cutscene that plays after you beat Rumpelstiltskin, "Give back the contract" like tf and just THEN Fiona RANDOMLY says she upgrades her liking to love). 2. The battle system is addictive but could definitely be improved. It tends to be repetitive, there's no difficulty shifts in the type of enemies you encounter (as in, fighting a witch is the same as fighting a villager or a knight. No one is harder than the others, say) and it's generally pretty basic since you can only attack and be attacked. The music shit is amazing tho, I'm still ALWAYS pumped for fighting breaks. 3. Boss fights, oof... Almost inexistent. The fights against Fairy Godmother and the Flute Bitch are indirect, there's a lot of waiting involved, they're just pretty forgettable AND worst of all, they're still better than the last fight, the one against Rumpelstiltskin, in which you basically just beat up his sidekicks and just a couple times snatch his wig. Which yeah, funny lmao, but it barely felt like a boss fight. 4. The puzzles tend to be too easy and again, there's no increase in difficulty as you get farther into the game. But I really can't be mad at this game. The music is amazing, the environments look so cute. The graphics aren't great but personally I prefer them like this. And dude I really love the Magic Mirror mechanics, it was original. And the dialogues are cool, the art direction for the game was great imo. The Italian dubbers weren't the original ones but I gotta say, the voices that ended up being cast are great on their own, they fit the characters and honestly some are VERY close to the originals, like Donkey's. I played the entire thing unsure if it was the og dubber or not and has to look it up to be sure. Overall it's probably not a game a normal person would recommend cause it has its issues. But it's a classic for me, and I was entertained all the way through so I'd definitely say one should try it at least once. I'm certainly gonna come back to it again in the future. Also I'm not a normal person.
