4.5/5 ★ – blskier's review of Donkey Kong.

In a tragic childhood error, I left my gameboy advance case and games on a plane, inclusive of donkey Kong 94. I always had fond but frustrated memories of donkey Kong, thinking it was extremely difficult and forever being ashamed I wouldn’t be able to progress further (forever trapped on world 3). Years later it finally comes to switch and I am delighted to see that it holds up as a brilliant gameboy puzzler that had some genuinely clever puzzle solutions and level design. Tight ropes to swing on, enemies to ride on, bridges to build - there’s a surprising amount of interactable elements in the levels, not to mention surprisingly fluid controls and movement for an old gameboy game. There’s no shortage of bite sized chunked levels here as there is nearly 100, and some fun and clever boss battles here to boot. My only barely any complaint would be a couple of the levels feel like repeats of themselves (especially bosses), but that’s forgivable with the massive quality and tremendous quantity of most of the levels. Recommend this to anyone willing to jump into a classic 2D puzzler, and to see some of the origins of how Mario would end up controlling in a 3D space. This game is truly outstanding
