4/5 ★ – bryansbane's review of Destiny 2.

After falling off of the first game quick and against my better judgement I purchased Destiny 2 at the day of release. It had all of the things I loved about the first. That awe inspiring art style, beautiful music and pitch perfect gameplay. There was also the promise of a proper campaign, would this be the Destiny I was hoping for? Sure, it was still an online MMO lore, but could they deliver that single player story experience I was really looking to experience? The answer is YES…and no. The Red War campaign that launched with Destiny 2 was a great 8-10 campaign that really felt like Bungie taking another crack at their Halo campaign roots. I loved it. Great encounters, a true villain and a compelling story had me hooked. It wasn’t long after finishing the campaign I was ready to move on to a different game, as I usually just stick to single player experiences. I did have a few fond memories doing the first raid with my friend Josh, but beyond that I had my fill. Then Bungie did the unthinkable and deleted the entire campaign from the game permanently. To this day as I write, there is no way to experience it even if you paid for it. It’s hard to believe such a reality exists, but it does. Once this decision was made I knew I was done with the franchise forever. Not in a way where I say one thing, but do another like much of gaming culture. I meant it, and have never once returned to Destiny 2 since. It feels like Bungie was perpetually trying to figure out what to do with the IP they created. There were some extremely high highs and some very low lows. I think it’s fair to say they never got it quite right. All I’m left with now is some good memories and no way to relive them. I hope Bungie’s future involves giving us a game they have for pride and faith in. Despite all of my qualms, they crafted an experience that’s good and brought many endless hours of joy. I appreciate them for that.
