3/5 ★ – bugzeppelin's review of Lupin the 3rd: Treasure of the Sorcerer King.

"What is it? -Hnnng Ughhh" "What is it? -Hnnng Ughhh" "HEY! IT'S LUPIN!" the beautiful sounds of nature, get used to hearing that. I won't lie to you it is impressively tedious for even the most willing stealth game fans, you need to love Lupin III bad for this. It's got everything there, it's done what I found to be a wonderful job of adapting the source material, but the enemy AI is so completely ridiculously broken 😂 I'll try to explain this well, in order to sneak past guards in disguise you've gotta ping them with a salute, which gives you about 5 seconds or so to get you along, but if you leave their field of view even just to walk around them it will restart. This basically almost always means that you have to spam salute two or three times to get through any room depending on how many times they turn in their walk cycle, and how many obstacles there are in the room to protect you. If there is more than one guard they cannot be de-signaled simultaneously and on many more than one occasion were so poorly spaced together that it was impossible to salute the other in time for the first salute animation to finish! Luponnnnn!!!!! (I'm shaking my fist at the sky) Mercifully, the Goemon and Jigen action segments are actually very fun, save for a late game boss fight that I have no other choice but to assume was not play tested as Goemon... Shout out to anyone else who had to do that I looked up 5 different gameFAQs and they all said "DO NOT PICK GOEMON" I think I was sat behind that pillar for about 30 minutes hearing that loud ass machine gun non stop yelling at Jigen cause he wouldn't fucking shoot him and I turned the camera around and he was dead on the floor 😂😂 With that out of the way the reason the score isn't deservedly harsher is cause the strongest Lupin warriors who stick it out get to play the best part of the game in the last levels where you just go to the Resident Evil mansion and it is just the best. I couldn't tell you how well it would stand up on their own but after fighting for my life in the first 8 hours the survival exploration felt amazing, no more bullshit now we kill people. The boss fights there are a bit questionable and easy to cheese on the right corner but they're properly climatic, and very long, and very funny. There was one that took about half an hour that consisted of running around in a circle and firing back at the monster autolocked off screen until it died, and it was awesome. I think the average Lupin III fan would be better off watching a lets play, since I do think it fits nicely alongside series 2. Those interested in older annoying games and Lupin III will get something out of it. Oh god and that GODDAMN SANITY COOLDOWN TIMER!!!
