5/5 ★ – bvgthor's review of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
I’m completely shocked I haven’t reviewed this earlier as it’s been a top 10 game of all time for me for years now. Snake Eater, plain and simple, is nothing short of a masterpiece and one of the most beautiful pieces of art I have ever had the pleasure of playing.
Not only is it an amazing Metal Gear installment(my second favorite in the series), it is one of the greatest games ever made.
Showing the backstory of one of the greatest villains of all time, Big Boss, Snake Eater throws you into the Vietnam jungle to take down incredible villains in a carefully crafted story that shows a hero’s fall and the start of his new ideology. With fantastic stealth, utilizing the jungle environment through camouflage, creative and unique boss fights, and gameplay that holds up even today, Snake Eater is a game you can never forget after the credits roll. The soundtrack is phenomenal, with the main theme being a spy Bond-esque anthem for Naked Snake that can’t help but give you chills in the fantastic final boss fight against The Boss, which is one of the best boss fights in video game history. Young Ocelot, the Boss, The End, The Fear, The Fury, The Sorrow, Volgin, so many amazing fights in this game in this incredible story…there’s so much to say.
We'll see how faithful the upcoming remake is, but this is one of those games that holds up so well that a remake isn’t even necessary.
The final shot. Chills.
Masterpiece forever.
