4/5 ★ – casualtuna's review of Halo: Combat Evolved.

Halo: Combat Evolved embodies the term “Classic” to its heart. It revolutionizes Console FIrst Person Shooter back in the day and it’s still great to control and play 20 years after its release. The story is also what defines a classic, simple and straightforward but with a key plot twist and intriguing mystery surrounding it. The graphic also seriously holds up to this day, I can’t imagine how 7 years old me would react on how good the game looks in 2001. I play the version included in The Master Chief Collection, but turned off the remastered graphics and play all the way with the classic graphics and it is still a looker. There are things in this game that have aged a bit though, mainly the repetitive encounter design in a couple of levels. I finally know where “hold the horde while I fix this machine” in Destiny comes from. Overall though, I know why Halo and the Master Chief is so well beloved. If I have an Xbox back in the day, I too would be proud of this game.
