4.5/5 ★ – chemergency's review of Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

At launch, MCC was busted and broken to the point where I could not recommend it. Thankfully though after years of patches I think it's safe to say this is the definitive Halo experience, with all the maps, modes, campaigns, and goodies you could ask for. On PC it's even better and it has some distinct advantages over the Xbox One version, but there are a few caveats to consider too: +XBL Gold subscription not required to play online +mouse and keyboard control with solid rebinding options +mods are supported to some extent, though they're not as extensive as Halo CE's or ElDewrito's, at-least not yet +unofficial custom server browsers exist and work if you want to take advantage of those +campaigns all play great, and they even have co-op for those interested (wasn't available in the original PC versions of Halo 1 and 2) +both the remade Halo CE maps in Reach and the original maps in the original game are available -official server/lobby browser doesn't exist yet, only matchmaking which is still pretty spotty but not as bad as it was when it launched on Xbox One -Forge and other modes aren't officially accessible yet (though it is still possible to use custom made maps through custom/private lobbies luckily) -frustrating audio bugs/bad mixing that has yet to be fixed, and according to the devs may not even be possible to fix due to the limitations of the sound format used for the Xbox 360 originally -crossplay isn't available yet, and it's unclear if it ever will be, so don't expect to play with friends on Xbox and vice-versa -so-far, Halo Reach, Halo CE Anniversary, and Halo 2 Anniversary have been released, but Halo 3, ODST, and 4 are still to come, and their development time varies but they usually release about 2-3 months apart from each other
