4.5/5 ★ – cinebad's review of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.
Guardians Of The Galaxy was a game that I didn’t have high expectations when I saw gameplay for it for the first time, but I was still cautiously excited for it because I’m a big fan of the movies. I finally got it, and finished it within a week. Just a few months ago, I played Marvels Spider-Man for the first time, and with these two games, I think the potential for superhero video games is climbing higher and higher. At first glance, the gameplay in this game could seem a bit difficult to get, but I pretty much got all of it after a few hours of playing. You only play as starlord, but you lead the other members of the Guardians, so it isn’t like it’s a wasted opportunity. I don’t play a lot of games, so I’m not the best at judging gameplay, but the gameplay in this game is so much fun. A lot of it is just jumping, dodging, shooting, repeat. But, somehow it keeps you engaged. Especially with the advancements of abilities you receive throughout the game. I’m a sucker for story driven games, and the story is just fantastic in this game. I was not expecting it to get as serious as it got. The story deals with things like existentialism, depression, and grief. There is lots of dialogue in this game, that might not be for everyone. But, I personally loved it. If you are a fan of the movies you’ll love this game, even if you’re not, it does things differently than the movies that some might appreciate.
