2.5/5 ★ – crthwrstlsr's review of Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward.
Replayed this after years of not liking it to see if my opinion had changed, and it did!
*BIG SPOILERS*
some characters very poorly written and extremely unlikeable (clover)
most of the text is unnecessary
tutorial just instantly repeats itself - i just listend to the rabbit and now sigma answers every question AGAIN
characters explain really simple things. thank you phi for explains that an injection gun injects things and is shaped like a gun
most dialogue tries to come off as quirky and funny but it’s just fucking annoying
the escape rooms are way to short with the story being way longer
way too much plot all at once (because of the type of game it is) but it feels like their throwing darts at potential stories and seeing what strings together
characters meet the same fate so many times it’s becomes monotonous and boring
the game really liked to jerk itself off at the idea of foreshadowing or being vague it’s really pretentious
especially during escape rooms, the female characters act as if every male character wants to have sex with them or fantasise about them, it’s very shallow and very annoying
flashbacks show events that may or may not have happened yet (depending on players play through). A fault of the OOOO LOOK AT HOW MANY TIMELINES THERE ARE ARENT WE SO SMART?!?!?!?
there’s a certain order the game hopes you play the timeline in a specific order. From cyan through red all the way down to second round of voting, if you pick ally before betray, all you watch is an extremely confusing scene purely because the game WANTED you to pick another option beforehand. this is all for the sake of its own pretentiousness
!!!!HOWEVER!!!!!
there’s a majority of things that changed my opinion. maybe i was just too young to really understand it but i appreciate the game a lot more than what i remembered. but this game ((in my opinion)) is still rife with problems.
