3.5/5 ★ – cybermaxx12's review of Firewatch.

Visuals: While the game has limited graphical fidelity, it has a solid style. It appears to have been made in unity, which could partially account for the limited detail in its presentation. Some aspects are effective, particularly light and color. The ambient light which varies with time of day does an excellent job of invoking waning sunlight or the chill of dusk. Along with the varying times of day there are a plethora of colors of the sky and forest which are pleasing. The design of man-made objects are pleasing as well. Your firewatch tower is filled with items which you can investigate at your leisure. The low fidelity graphical style works well here as even a mild degree of clutter in your home feels warm and inviting - characterized by solid colors and soft edges. All this being said, sometimes I felt the limitations of the presentation, and hungered to see other character models depicted up close, the omission of which was likely secondary to budget constraints. Sound: The soundtrack is enjoyable, however it is not the main attraction. Firewatch is primarily about quiet forest sounds and the conversation had with Delilah. The forest sounds are fine. The conversations with Delilah are very well done. Talking with Delilah is what you spend most of your time doing in the game and I honestly found them quite engaging. The voice acting is excellent and the lines are well written. The jokes are funny, the subtleties are understandable, and the tension is palpable. Story: Gameplay: Final Impression:
