3/5 ★ – dandylionbritt's review of Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

My prediction was that this would be a fine game on its own, and maybe even some people‘s favorite dragon age. But I always expected it to be at least mildly disappointing for long time fans of the series. There was so much going into this that was worrying. I think if you care for story or are particularly familiar with the lore of this world, there will be a lot to annoy you. If you just like to run around in pretty environments, mindlessly slay darkspawn, take pictures, and flirt with companions…you’ll probably have a great time. I’m kind of in between these two things. I do find the storytelling and lore lacking and at odds with past entries at times. The game feels incredibly sanitized and terrified of nuance. I find most of the dialogue and characters cringey…some words, phrases, and speech too modern and immersion breaking. The foundation of the game is fundamentally flawed. The pacing was a mess. Choices contrived. But I enjoyed running around in pretty environments, taking pictures, and flirting with companions.
