daneh's review of Firewatch.

Firewatch is a great game with great atmosphere and very relaxing but interesting gameplay in which you're able to explore and immerse yourself into completely. However it has a few shortcomings that bring the experience down a bit. First, lets talk about Gameplay: The moment to moment gameplay of Firewatch might not be for everyone: it has the main character, Henry, be instructed to investigate certain locations in the map. It mostly relies on wandering around, taking in the environment and atmosphere, and some exploration. You will meet new odd locations from time to time which will foreshadow what is to happen later on in the game. I really enjoyed this and its one of my favorite parts of the game. However it is slightly disappointing that the game isnt as open as I'd like. Sure, you can go basically anywhere, however the world is riddled with tiny trees and rocks and small hills as minor obstacles that look easy to climb, however your character refuses to do so just because the devs casually decided to put an invisible wall there. Sometimes you might also miss a small detail or item or path between some rocks and now you're lost for 30 minutes about to look up a tutorial on youtube. But overall despite these flaws the gameplay in Firewatch is still very enjoyable. Then let's talk about the story: Its good. Really good. I really liked it. It has the main character Henry escaping from his very messed-up life into this job out in the woods, despite part of him not wanting to. Once he gets there the only human he can talk to is to his boss, Delilah. Throughout the game we can see amazing characters with both of them along with some great voice acting, and as the story progresses there's a lot of mystery and really cool moments. I won't spoil anything, but from what I've heard there's a lot of people disappointed in the ending. However I found it to be a good conclusion to the story overall, and the game left me very satisfied. Overall thoughts, great game with a few flaws on a gameplay perspective, along with a great story, voice acting, atmosphere, art style, and music. I'd definitely recommend this game if you don't mind a slightly slower-paced experience.
