4/5 ★ – daneh's review of Super Mario Maker 2.

The first mario maker was every kid's dream at some point. The game somehow blew up, even though it was under the failed yet underrated Wii U. So when the sequel came out on the popular Switch, it was bound to blow up, right? Turns out not. But that doesnt mean the game is bad in any way. In fact, it exceeds its predecessor in almost every way. Mario maker 2 gives you all the tools from the get-go, and the new additions are very creative and enjoyable. The course world seems to have been improved a ton because the quality of stages I've gotten has risen dramatically since the first game, making it much more enjoyable to just hop on and play some levels. The new story mode is also a blast. Surprisingly the plot fits like a glove into the theme of the game and makes it more enjoyable as the goal is not "to make it to the end" but to gather enough funds. This also encourages people to stand up to tougher challenges. The level design is also very enjoyable and it honestly gives creators a ton of ideas for great stages. Then the World Map Creator makes everything so much more fun. From a player perspective, you basically have an infinite amount of Mario campaigns you get to play. And from a maker perspective, making levels made to be followed up with others and making consecutive themes encourage creativity and makes the process so much fun. Then there's the online mode... its not good. at all. Its a shame cause from the three frames ive gotten to play it was very fun, but its much more annoying than its worth. Either way despite a few flaws including the massive missed opportunity that was the online, this game is fully worth it. Its just fun to go through every single mode, and honestly despite what everyone else might say, this is personally my favorite 2D Mario game
