4.5/5 ★ – dolphy's review of Bloodborne: The Old Hunters.
After years, and 15 playthroughs of the main game, I finally got to play the DLC. And it was exactly as good as I thought it would be. A memorable experience. Although a tad bit more disturbing than the main game.
I played the main game enough to be able to reliably speedrun it in an hour or less. I can't get bored of Bloodborne and I'm always happy to help people with it. I will make sure everyone that plays this game actually experiences all of it. From its wonderful areas to the questlines and all the bosses. It took me this long to play the DLC because I'd always thought it would be silly of me to buy a DLC that costs as much as the main game. Even if it were Bloodborne, one of the first games I played on the PS4 and after years of video games hiatus.
I love the idea of this DLC. The first area is essentially the same but an alternate reality. One that is much worse. The second area made me feel really disturbed by the amount of messed up things happening all around. I'm sure there's a deeper meaning than what I could see. I did not like the third area which is why the DLC gets a 4.5 from me. However, the boss more than makes up for it.
Orphan of Kos was my favorite fight. I wanted to get my ass handed to me and he was the boss that did that. Laurence was somewhat underwhelming. I had somewhat managed to avoid spoilers altogether for years but I always heard Laurence's name thrown around. I expected the boss to be something more than it is. But lore wise it fits. Lady Maria is absolutely incredible. Her fight was simply art moves and music wise.
