3.5/5 ★ – drifferx's review of Assassin's Creed: Altaïr's Chronicles.
Good game considering it came out for the NDS. Controls are clunky and sometimes vague and there are some bugs here and there, but, overall, it is a good AC game. Mostly, because it represents Altair's story (it's a prequel to AC1) and personality perfectly and because the environments are really well done and detalied, probably, my favourite thing about this game.
I love the use of the stylus. It's not forced or uncofortable, it is just an option most of the time and it doesn't interfere with the buttons. Altough I love it when you have to torture someone or steal from their pockets with the stylus, both mechanics are really well implemented.
A minor problem, aside from the controls, would be the story. I won't spoil anything, but the game ends with a cliffhanger and the canon in this game is never explored again in the series, except for a 2011 novel. It's sad because the story and characters in this game seem promising.
The gameplay is varied enough. There are fighting sections, different kind of stealth sections, puzzles, platforming, and even the usage of companions. In my opinion, it's easy to tell that this game was made with love and hard work.
Also, for some reason, I've seen a lot of people calling this game "a (bad) mobile port" when it's actually the other way around. It's a NDS game that was ported to mobiles. Obviously, you can't compare this game to a PS3 game, so, considering that, I would recommend it if you like the Assassin's Creed series, Altair, or just NDS games overall.
