2/5 ★ – drifferx's review of TURBO: Super Stunt Squad.
This is a racing game based on the movie 'Turbo' so you can expect characters and settings from it. But the race tracks are somewhat random. Sometimes you can see stuff related to the movie like tacos or a food truck (and a few more but I don't want to give away any spoilers) but other times it's just random stuff and it feels like the tracks are floating as there's like a void surrounding them.
The circuits' designs are... OK, I guess. You can run on rails, on walls (some of them) and, as the game has the word 'stunt' in it, you can pull up some tricks while jumping down ramps. And that is the biggest problem of this game. When you make a jump, you have to press a button on the d-pad to get a power up. But you can't steer mid-air (you steer with the d-pad also, at least in the NDS version). If you do, your snail will stumble and lose a lot of time. Even if the drift mechanic is decent, that jump thing destroys the entire gameplay.
The game is also too short, since there are only 3 cups. However, there is also a time attack mode.
The soundtrack is poor too.
I guess I've played a lot of horrible games in my life and that's why this one doesn't seem so horrible to me, since it has a certain charm. But I still wouldn't recommend it.
