3/5 ★ – dropthemoon's review of SANABI: The Revenant.
This game is really negatively affected by poor pacing. A large percentage of your runtime is cutscenes, and while the story is okay, there are translation issues with the script (missing words, etc). You never feel like you’re getting into a flow with the game, because it wrests control from you too often. There are also some segments that are annoying, particularly one with a repeated blinding flash that is inexcusable. The core mechanics are fun, the music and art are great, and the “final” boss is quite good. I would say it ends strongly, but the last levels are a retread of each level type instead of mixing mechanics from all of the levels, so it feels underwhelming after a bit, and there’s no actual final boss. A well implemented grappling hook can take you very far, but this gets in its own way too much.
