4.5/5 ★ – dustinmacdougall's review of Final Fantasy VII Remake.
So I never played the original. Well I have and for about 2 hours everytime I attempted to play it. It just ever clicked for me. I have played at least 10 different Final Fantasy games. Only ever beating 1 of the before playing Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
What a game, beautiful, heart warming and devastating at the perfect moments. The combat is super fun and I wish the combat sequences lasted longer than they usually did. I had very few problems with this game, but oddly enough those few problems annoyed me quite a bit. It was all of those silly mini games. That took way to long to reset if you didn't quite understand them at first. Which for me resulted in a pacing issue that usually resulted in me taking a break from the game after a few of the mini games stacked after one another which took me out of the game a few times. This game when it gets going wants to go balls to the wall and I felt it usually slowed down the second it got to those moments. But then I got to the last few chapters and holy shit did things amp up. I've played quite a few games if you check my profile and those finaly 3 or 4 chapters hit just right. Flushing out these characters relationships with one another, their resolve and willingness to do the right thing no matter the cost is both heart warming and adrenine inducing. I never gave a shit about any of these characters when I started the game, but now I'm in the gangs corner until the bitter end.
4.5/5 because of the pacing issue I felt the game had for me
