2/5 ★ – dylanhenning's review of SpongeBob's Truth or Square.
In this game SpongeBob has lost the krabby patty formula and you’ve got to play through a series of memories to help him remember where he put it.
This game was fine. It wasn’t terrible or broken but it wasn’t exciting or innovative in any way either. For a licensed tie in game it does what it’s supposed to do and give you a fun SpongeBob video game complete with voice cast from the show but that’s about it.
The Colllectables aren’t that interesting aside from some artifacts you can get for SpongeBob’s house but I never felt motivated or encouraged to find these collectibles as I played. If I stumbled upon some concept art great, otherwise I just keep moving along.
The combat here is pretty standard but kinda limited to just a few options. Some of the puzzles were a little more frustrating than a kids game should be. Not because they were challenging but because the game gave you no indication of what to do and I had to look it up because there were no context clues.
The camera angles and movement certainly provided their own challenges and I would die or get injured by an enemy because there were no camera positioned itself in a way where I couldn’t see my surroundings super well or I wasn’t as close to a target as I needed to be.
This is a quick and fun time if you love SpongeBob and want some easy achievements but it’s not a “must play” game by any means.
