3/5 ★ – enovo15's review of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition.
Played in 2020
I played this game after watching the Netflix show and without playing the first game and I had mixed opinions on it. I absolutely loved the story of this game (I played through Iorveth’s path), but I absolutely hated the gameplay. I grew to love the characters, setting, lore and themes of the Witcher universe from watching the show, and this game only added to that as far as narrative is concerned. At this point, anything that will add to the story of Geralt of Rivia is something I’d be all about, and this game delivers on this extremely well. However, the gameplay feels very old and clunky. I had a very hard time getting used to the controls and gameplay, and switched the difficulty to the lowest setting so I could enjoy the story without dying to the control scheme so often. I found the controls so bad that I almost abandoned the game in the opening level after dying over and over again to the first enemies. I’m really glad I lowered the difficulty and got through the story because it’s so worth it, but I can’t give it more than 3 stars with how poorly the controls have held up over the years.
