ephemeriis's review of EVE Online.
I'm back in EVE Online for the 20th anniversary... After about 8 years of inactivity.
It's weird how much has changed while remaining basically the same. The UI, for example, is all kind of shiny and translucent and modern-looking... But it's still just a bunch of nested menus.
Walking in Stations seems to be completely gone. I can't find any way to switch to my captain's quarters... Seems like a waste - I know a lot of effort went into building that back in the day. But the character/pilot customization is still there - complete with different clothing options. Weird.
The game seems to be very aggressively monetized these days. We used to just have a simple $20/month subscription. Now there's the subscription for "Omega" time... And then an assortment of add-ons, in-game currency, and cosmetics.
The gameplay loops seem to be basically unchanged though. Which means it still feels more like an Excel spreadsheet than space combat.
