1.5/5 ★ – evasglory's review of Awkward Dimensions Redux.

While having interesting ideas and occasionally nice to look at environments, Awkward Dimensions Redux lacks cohesiveness and subtlety and is more confusing than awkward. It reminds me a lot of The Beginner's Guide, a game that is similarly a walking simulator with unique small levels to explore (and which I highly recommend). While The Beginner's Guide is a journey through someone's relationship with another person and the interpretations of the other person's games, Awkward Dimensions is more of a compilation of a random person's thoughts whom I don't really care about. This could work (and really well, I think) if the levels were more absurd and more subtle about the emotions and experiences they are trying to convey. The first few levels are actually the best in my opinion because they are exactly this. After that, it is mostly straight up told to you via narration or text, which are some of the most boring and obvious ways to convey information. To make it even worse, the narration can last insanely long and is even more boring and frustrating to sit through. In one level you have to hold the left mouse button while the narrator talks over a black screen, and if you let go of the button it resets and you have to listen to the whole thing again. In another, you climb a ladder while watching a blurry video of a guy (I assume the developer) having a breakdown over some pieces of paper while you are also surrounded by poor reviews of what I assume (again) to be the developer's past games. These levels are the worst in the game in my opinion, but they exemplify how uninteresting, incohesive, and unsubtle this game can be. Also, the movement controls are bad. This would be fine if it was just a walking simulator, but combined with the platforming it's just awful and frustrating. Like I said, this game has good ideas and a good premise, but the presentation and execution bring it down heavily.
